About Me

Welcome to my little plot of cyber real estate. My name is Miranda. By day, I work as an IT consultant. I earned my MFA in creative writing in 2013, and have been fantasizing about writing the next great American piece of nonfiction. My thesis, Running to Boston, was a mix of memoir and researched-based nonfiction on the history and development of the marathon race. Currently, I'm most interested in the historical aspects of the race and how they inform and shape runners' experiences and the marathon today. For more information, contact me.

All that aside, I always identify as a runner. I got into running for perhaps all the wrong reasons—follow my blog to learn them. Like any good relationship, running has a solid amount of give and take. No matter what else is going on in my life, running feels like coming home. I'm completely comfortable with myself when I'm running. In short, running has taught me so much about myself and what I’m capable of accomplishing.

I’ve completed four marathons and can't decide which one I want to run next. I truly believe that anyone can run a marathon. You can be a runner. You should be a runner. My goal is to leave you with some tips or inspiration, or some combination of both. So get out there and give it a try, or take a few clicks around here before lacing up your sneaks. And let me know how it went!

For weeks, I've been turning over in my head what I have to say about my most recent marathon, the 2017 Marine Corps Marathon. It's been about a month and a half since race day, and I've decided that I don't have a singular takeaway from that marathon. I can't reflect on a single theme or message and lay it out neatly in this post. There's just too much there. So instead I'll focus on two outcomes that took me by surprise
"how fast?"
